Technical Analysis vs Fundamental Analysis: Which Do You Trust More?

Crypto traders use very different methods when deciding whether to buy, sell or avoid a cryptocurrency.

Some focus heavily on charts and price action, while others research the project, technology, adoption and tokenomics behind the asset.

So which approach do you trust more: technical analysis or fundamental analysis?

Technical Analysis

Technical analysis focuses primarily on market data such as price, volume and historical trading behaviour.

Traders may analyse:

  • Support and resistance

  • Price trends

  • Trading volume

  • Moving averages

  • RSI and other momentum indicators

  • Chart patterns

  • Market structure

The objective is generally to identify potential trends, entry points, exits or changes in market momentum.

Fundamental Analysis

Fundamental analysis looks more closely at the cryptocurrency or blockchain project itself.

Depending on the asset, traders and investors might research:

  • Technology

  • Token utility

  • Tokenomics

  • Supply and distribution

  • Development activity

  • Network usage

  • Adoption

  • Competition

  • Liquidity

  • Security

  • Regulatory risks

A project can have strong fundamentals while its token performs poorly, just as a token with questionable fundamentals can experience significant short-term price increases.

Do You Need Both?

Some traders combine the two approaches.

For example, fundamental research might determine which cryptocurrency they want exposure to, while technical analysis helps determine when they want to enter or exit.

Others believe price action already reflects the information available to the market and therefore focus mainly on charts.

What Works for You?

Technical analysis, fundamental analysis or a combination of both?

If you're a short-term trader, does your approach differ from how you evaluate a long-term crypto position?

Share what you actually use and why.

If you've changed your approach over time, what caused you to change it?
